Title: Crinoline Lady made of woven glass. Murano?
Post by: Jeke on April 23, 2014, 09:48:27 PM
This is an extremely delicate crinoline lady made of glass thread. The basket she is holding hooks off. She is 13 cm tall. Is this a Murano figure and is there any age to it? I can't find anything quite like it on the web..
Thanks

Verre tresse is a speciality of Liege , Belgium and of Nevers, france - not murano. If you found it here it is most likely from Belgium. Modern producers nclude China. These are lampworked from glass rods and do not require a serious investment, so there are many possible small producers.

Thanks for the information, Ivo. I bought this figurine in England, not in The Netherlands. I have never heard of verre tresse. I still can't find anything similar searching with that as a search term, do you have any links?

Ah, spun glass - that's what it is called! Yes, that works. I would never have thought of that myself. Thanks a lot, Ivo

Spun glass was/is made in England too, often as tourist ware. As Ivo says, you are unlikely to find out who made it
