Title: Nuutajarvi Vase? Nyman, Lindstrand?
Post by: BigB on May 03, 2014, 07:51:14 AM
Hi, I'm putting this piece of glass out there to have my hopes shot down in flames, but I'm trying to learn and absorb as much as possible in my new found love of glass. Especially Scandinavian glass!

Am I wildly off the mark wondering if this could be Nuutajarvi? I've looked at as many pieces of Nyman as I can and there are many similarities in the style, thickness, pattern of the controlled bubbles, etc.

Most grateful for any feedback. Thanks in advance.

 :)
I think we need Robbo for this one. If he doesn't turn up soon, I'll ask him to have a look.

My first thoughts (not being familiar with Nuutajarvi, just madly in love with most bits I've seen) were actually Caithness.
Not your normal run-of-the-mill Caithness, but from a limited studio series they did in the early '00s.

The coloured bands remind me of the Oban range, this could have been adapted/borrowed to produce this large controlled bubble vase. The style is not out of keeping with that studio line.

Unless this is marked I would try and see if Galliano Ferro might have made it,  I would expect Nuutajarvi to be marked.

I do not believe this is Chinese. Not for one moment!

Yes, the coloured stripes running through are very similar in style but only feature to one side. The controlled bubbles made me think it couldn't be Caithness, but I will look into the limited edition series you refer to, thanks.

Ha, yes if this was Chinese then I'd give up now and stick to my specialist subject; wood!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll start looking.

Hi, I posting this piece of glass on the Scandinavian board, but think it's best asking the question here...

Am I wildly off the mark wondering if this could be Nuutajarvi? I've looked at as many pieces of Nyman as I can and there are many similarities in the style, thickness, pattern of the controlled bubbles, etc.

A couple of suggestions from people here to look at Caithness and Galliano Ferro. Any thoughts?

Most grateful for any feedback. Thanks in advance.

Quite sure that this is Czech, designed by Milan Metelak for Harrachov glassworks.

Here is a similarly coloured bowl on Wayne's site:

Great, thanks rocco, that seems to be a positive identification albeit I cannot find this exact shape and variation. It's a pity there are a few scuffs on it as I rather like it.

I just took a look around your collection and somewhat in awe of it! Some fine pieces.
