This was a gift in 1981 from someone who had been in Italy.
It is approx 50cm tall and about 30cm across the top
... any ideas of what it is and what it might be worth?
Thanks in Advance

Hello and welcome to the GMB and the wonderful world of glass.
This type of table ornament has been with us for a very long time and does not serve any other function than being pretty. Some manufacturers make the tail suitable for a napkin - but naw, you wouldn' t, not really.
Problem is that in the last 5 years or so we have seen a huge influx of satinated pink and blue copies from India or China - and there is no way of telling the old from the new. Looking at your photo I'd swear blind this is contemporary decoration item made yesterday - but there is no way of being certain.

Thanks for the reply, Ivo....
If these have been copied in India and China over the last 5-10 years, what is it that they are copying? What have they been faking, in other words
What I'm asking is that if they have been worth copying, what might an original be?
- we have had this for over 33 years - were they being copied that long ago?
Sorry to pester you :-[
Thanks again

Hard to say. In any case, don't believe anything sellers tell you - it is an easy shape, many glass makers have made them.

I think Ivo just means variants on this shape have been made for a very long time. They are still being made. Sooner Glass is a US company that used this shape, for example. There is no question of fakes.
Your example seems huge. Are your measurements correct?
-
Yes, the size is correct ..... 50cm high x 30 cm across the top.....
Perhaps this really is an unusual one ?
Let us know, please?
Thanks
