Hello there i'm wondering if this is genuine , as i have never come across one before and a rough guide to it's age if it is. It's not signed, there looks like some wear to the base but i would have thought a lot more given it's weight, there is also a lot of dirt in the small base area inside the vase, it's huge and weigh's 3.8 kg, there also looks like broken glass shards or dripped glass on the inside of the neck.
It's 10 inches at the widest point and 12 inches in height.
Thank regards Chris.

It is a fish vase, not a fish head or for that matter an axe head... :D Judging by the squared off sides (instead of curved) it will likely date from the mid to late 1970s into the 1980s.
It is genuine - it was made at Mdina, not the sort of thing you can fake in your average garden shed.

I think it's your fault i picked this up, did you post a few some months ago?, I really fancied one after that post who ever put it on, thanks John.

I did post one, a bit earlier in date than yours, from the time period when Harris was still experimenting with the design. The earliest examples look as though he was struggling with the glass as much as experimenting, in glass making terms they can be somewhat crude but as far as I am concerned they have all the more charm for it.

I can't add anything more. :)
It's a pretty big one too, Chris.
The Fish name came from them looking a bit like a manta ray from above.
Some of them more than others. ;D

Who posted the three or four in show and tell i think it was?, it's currently blocking all the available light into my front room i love it.

Probably John. He's very good at doing lovely group pics.
He also has the required models to do the posing. ;)

Here is that thread: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,55865.0.html
There is a very early fish vase on ebay at the moment, the same colours as the vase front right in my first group photo in the link above. A reasonable price too in my opinion.
