Just in case people can't wait to hear more this is not quite a paperweight being one of many impressive outdoor glass sculptures on Murano . This was was installed in time for Christmas 2007 having been designed by Simone Cenedese and is in the midst of a square called Campo Santo Stefano
Maybe a nice topic for the Glass Cafe  :)

Alastair, thank you for adding the details for us, most interesting. The topic will be moved over to Murano forum, rather than Cafe (which is for non-glass chat really and where topics are regularly pruned), so it will be retained for reference. :)

Why spoil the look of a great piece by putting tatty railings up. A nice glass partition surround would still protect and not spoil. Would like to see it on a sunny day....
