Title: Green vase with red spiral trail and tadpole style end/Kralik-Powell whitefriars
Post by: heartofsklo on May 28, 2014, 02:07:28 PM
The main body and base is green and the swirled trail is in a burgundy glass, at the base of the body the vase starts as a small shell. Measures just over 20cm tall and the centre base has a snapped pontil mark which is rough. Signed to the base with an etched signature/initials that I cannot make out. Delicate glass, has a look of James Powell & Sons (whitefriars).

Morning!

This is probably of absolutely no help at all  ::) BUT I did google "YF Glass" and this came up with the same initials as yours: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/98381-kuttrolf-bulb-glass-vase-signed-yf-h

Intersting, seems to be a maker known as "Kuttrolf" or "Waldglas Kuttrolf", according to the link, appear to be fake about. Never heard of them before but will certainly have a closer look at them. For now, you could be right, thanks.

Not really my area, although I think the term Waldglas Kuttrolf, refers to the type of object rather than a maker.
I would suspect your one and the one in the link are modern reproductions.

I saw one piece with label  "J.E.F glas"  or something like that, not the same as mine but most seem heavier and imitating 17th c style of glass. On ebay there is a vase stated as "OLD" with a description header of KUTTROLF Kastrup but when I look up Kastrup glass, it shows Kastrup Holmeguard. Possibly Kastrup is another word lost in my translation and not a maker for their piece.

Anyhows, I have not seen another with all of my searching the same/similar to mine and the signatures on all others are deffinately a Y and and F separated and clearly visible, childlike almost in their separation.

There are many manufacturers of replicas of this type. Just google Waldglas repliken for the germans; there is also a large one in Sweden, one in the Czech republic - and of course Bon in Murano.
Happy hunting!

Thanks Ivo and oldglassman. I have looked at many of the "Waldglas" pieces and they seem to be unsigned/marked, but that is obviously not cast in stone. I will do some more research into them.

Whoever made this piece, did an extremely good job in my humble opinion, it is lovely quality.

These have a label stating  "J.E.F glas" - item No 161158744630 photo No 18 - Seller stated the following "Josef Flek / J.E.F. GLAS NOVY BOR" as the supplier/maker.

I have found this book for sale, item No 351070731335 and the images on its front cover look interesting (book dated 1968). Not sure regarding the age of pieces that are referred to within it though.

All very interesting when I am sleuthing  ;D
