Title: Battuto Cut Blue and Amber Leaf shape bowl - Poss Murano or Scandinavian ..?

Would welcome any thoughts on this shallow amber and blue clear cased bowl.

Tear drop or leaf like in form with a detailed battuto type cutting to the underside. The base has been polished completely smooth and has lots of age related wear.

Length: 9.5 inches
Width: 6.25 inches
Weight: 2013 grams (very heavy for size)

Originally described as Swedish, although perhaps has more Murano characteristics, in terms of the cutting and colours. - All suggestions welcome.

I would have assumed Murano too Greg - also due to the bright colours and battuto. It looks high quality - so many cuts per square inch...

The cutting on the reverse is stunning, it would be nice to hopefully attribute a maker over time.

I noticed earlier there are actually two subtly different bands to the amber and also to the blue. A little difficult to see from the photos, you can just about see it on the previous overhead view.

I'm clueless, but it's scrumptious. I would suspect Murano myself, on the grounds of the quality and subtlety...

What a lovely piece. It looks like older (50's/60's) Murano to me, as precise cutting like that would cost a fortune now.

I keep coming back hoping we've got somewhere with an id!
There is something a bit '50s-ish about it, but that's just an impression/gut thing.

I suppose the important thing is that you have it and can admire and really appreciate it, Greg. It is a superb thing and it has found a good home. :)
An id might come along sometime.

Hi Sue - I think around late 50s would be a good estimation as to the age, the appearance of the base wear would also seem to correlate.

The shape has a nice organic feel, I also like the way the cutting to the reverse is visible through the amber from above, which adds another dimension.

I have been doing a little bit of digging here and there, although no luck in attributing a specific name to date. Would be nice to establish a maker overtime, however, the quality certainly seems to shine through regardless.  :)

Have you started with Cenedese?
I normally find Cenedese screams; "Quality" at me in the way this piece does.

(but I got completely taken in by a da Ros uranium bear - which I immediately assumed was a Chinese bear-bile shop window display ornament. :-[ )

I've scratched the surface with a few Murano makers, of which Cenedese is one. I'll do a little more digging over the next few days to see if anything stands out, fingers crossed.  :)

I checked the Scarpa book, but his 1940s Battuto piece are quite different (and Venini pieces should have the acid stamp -- but there are exceptions).

And it is probably later, 1960s?
Maybe Barbini?

Thanks for taking a look and a browse through the Scarpa book Michael, very much appreciated.  :)

I did take a detailed look at the base and can't see anything there for the life of me.

I'll add Barbini to my list, its one I haven't investigated yet, thank you.
