Title: Stuart crystal ? comport Stratford rings? help please.
Post by: brucebanner on June 29, 2014, 03:24:16 PM
Im selling this piece of glass, i happened to have it with me when i had a look around the glass museum on Friday. I showed it as well as a few other bits to the curator and he was confident this was made by Stuart, however someone has messaged me saying it is not by Stuart and i really do not like selling anything that's inaccurate. I can only find three others online and none like this are signed but there described as Stuart, does anyone have a signed one? or know who made this.

It's 6 3/4 inches in height, 6 1/4 inches across the rim and 3 3/4 inches across the base.

regards Chris.

The rings don't look right for Stratford; they should be much more defined
See mine (http://www.lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/thumbnails.php?search=stratford&submit=search&album=search&title=on&newer_than=&caption=on&older_than=&keywords=on&type=AND)

Yes i can see what you mean, i wonder if that's because it's a second, what do you think to the date?, there is an Amber one here, i'm not sure if you can paste other peoples  links? (please tell me off if you not supposed to), why would they go to the trouble to make an almost exact copy? whoever made this.

Perhaps yours is a second.

Because of where i live i think a lot of seconds were taken home, and now they are resurfacing as people die and their possessions sold, i think this might be Stratford rings looking at yours, the upper rim is badly misshaped and it's not signed.

It's huge and to big to post, it's been stuck in the garden for a bit,  it's 9 1/2 inches in height.

I would suggest the water jug isn't Stuart.             It seems that despite the size of an object - even quite large bowls etc. - the rings remain smaller than the hoops on this piece.
Try looking at some larger Stuart pieces on the Board's search files, and see what you think.

I assume this doesn't contain uranium........   believe I'm correct in saying that Stuart did not produce any glass containing uranium. :)

Stratford was made for a long time and I suspect Stuart had a factory shop as many manufacturers did

Quite right that Stuart did do this shade of blue  -  you see bowls in several sizes - but I'd agree with Christine that generally the 'rings' are better defined than the small piece showing here.

Sorry you had to leave your find behind Keith  -  still, it mightn't have fitted on that shelf ;)
