Title: These were interesting

Hi All

this listing has just ended and although they are not paperweights, I was just wondering who made them?

Hi Don

I was watching these, and speculating whether to bid £50 or so....! How naive.   At first I thought they might be early Bohemian or Venetian (maybe Francini) canes, but in the end I thought they looked very like modest quality St Mandé / Grenelle.  I assume they were the inserts for brooches.

Hi Alan.. I thought St Mande too... and thought of a punt at £20 or so, but then thought that they would not fit nicely in one of your display stands so didn't bother :) To see them go to the price they eventually went for was surprising !

I wonder where the idea of 18th century came from?

Hi Kevin.  The seller may be one of those people who think that the 18th century ran from 1800 to 1899 (there are quite a few people like that around!).
