Title: Egg-shaped vase with combed pattern - ID = Ludvika Smrčková, Czechoslovakia
Post by: rocco on July 07, 2014, 03:36:53 PM
Egg (or rather barrel) shape vase with internal "combed" white pattern, 17.5 cm high, perfectly circular polished pontil mark.

The shape (with the disk foot) reminds of Art Deco pieces like Lötz Schaumglas or some Ikora vases. The base finish is quite similar to my Lötz pieces, too.

But I am not sure if it has that age, another contender might be Eisch from the 1970s who used this combed pattern a lot. But there is no mark, and I couldn't find anything similar online...

Any help highly appreciated as usual!

Thanks,
Michael

For some reason the classiness of it and the quality remind me of Leerdam (or what I see on screen as Leerdam, having never seen a piece)?
But I don't know anything about their glass- it might all be signed.

Thank you very much, m -- good to see you back :)

As I am still leaning towards 1930s/40s period, and a quality maker, Leerdam is a very interesting suggestion.
I know nothing about Leerdam glass from that period, I will explore that avenue.

Naw not Leerdam, the foot is wrong. Plus, if it were production glass or serica I should recognise it and if it were unica it should be signed. I would rather look in Germany for this one. Gral, P&P, WMF. Zwiesel, Ichendorf, Joska or something of that kind.

Thanks Ivo, I was hoping that you could confirm or deny the Leerdam path...

Yes, German was my first thought, too, but I still would think rather pre WW2 with that foot.
The base looks very similar to WMF Ikora pieces I have, but I guess they were not the only makers of hotworked glass in that period.
The search continues ;)

Took quite some time, but I think I found an ID for this vase (I had the feeling it was something nice ;) )

Ludvika Smrčková from around 1936.

Two links, one gives a reference to a catalogue:
