I'm in conversation with a gentleman about purchasing this vase. I believe it's Kralik as I've seen another Kralik piece with similar markings. Does anybody recognize it?
Thank You
Rick

Hi
this has often been attributed to Kralik and occasionally to Pallme Koenig, but also, most recently, to Fritz Heckert (by the Passau Museum). I'd say probably one of the three but the Jury is still out!

Sorry forgot to say -
Its stunning who ever did it!
-
Thanks Mike I think it's beautiful also. Have you seen something similar?

Mike's being modest, BDG55.
He is a top dealer in very high end glass, he has years and years of experience, which along with his love and enthusiasm of the glass, makes him a very reliable source of accurate information.
His opinion is held in very high regard indeed and if he doesn't know, or can only suggest three potential makers, I think that's about as good as one can hope for at the moment. :)
-
Oh no, I definitely trust his opinion, but I was hoping to see another as I find this very exciting. If it sounded as if I was questioning him, that was not my intention. Thanks for your input.

Don't worry, I just thought as you are relatively new here, you might not be aware of exactly who Mike is.
my bad!
-
Mike I do have a question about the value of the piece. It is offered at $800.00 O.B.O. In your opinion, what is a fair market price for a piece like this?
Thanks Again
Rick

Value is always difficult and differs from country to country-
I will say that with those metallic applied flowers - it is very nice and very unusual

Thanks Mike. Do you feel that I'd be overpaying at $600.00?
Thanks
Rick
-
$400.00 would be better. ::)
-
Thanks Tony.

Not my area or period, or price level for that matter, but really? Really, really?
That much :o
without an attribution to a definite maker?
(No point in my even looking at the prices of high end glass.)
-
Your point is very well taken Sue. Thanks!
Rick
-
You can negotiate. ;)
-
Actually, I was going to negotiate down to the $600.00. They are asking $800.00, but as you said, it doesn't make sense to pay so much for an item without a specific attribution. I'm going to pass.
Thanks Rick
-
No harm in trying a negotiation, the seller might take on board the lack of attribution. I suspect he may have been just a bit optimistic/unrealistic about his price!
-
There is a vase here with similar gold metal decoration, if you scroll down a bit....

Ta, Mike.

Great find Mike. The scroll work is the same. Thanks so much!
Rick

Your potential seller doesn't know of this support for a Kralik attribution.
It is still completely unattributed as far as they are concerned.

Great find Mike. The scroll work is the same. Thanks so much!
Rick
Could you please state which item it is from the Bohemian Glass link that has the "same scroll work".
-
Way ahead of you Sue.. I sent him the Link.

Not a good idea if you still have any hope of buying it from him. You'd have been better keeping him in the dark. After all, it's up to him to do the research if he's selling.
Just as it is yours to do, to know where you stand as potential buyer. "buyer beware" and all that.
Kev, you need to scroll down the link a fair bit - to a purple iridescent vase with metal work on it. I wouldn't say it's exactly the same, but very, very similar. I would imagine the actual design of the scrolls would change to fit the piece.
(But I do avoid all glass with bits of metal stuck to it. It can affect price in a way that I'm not prepared to accommodate. I'm not remotely interested in "precious" metals or designer-market-inflated price gemstones.)
-
No Sue, I decided against buying it. There were other vases I was watching, and ended up getting a Charles Lotton at auction yesterday. Since the seller and I had become somewhat friendly, I figured I'd help him identify it for sure. Either way, he was pretty certain it was Kralik, but now he has confirmation.
Thanks
Rick

:)
That's grand, then. I was merely concerned for you that you may have lost your "edge". In your situation, particularly having become friendly, I'd have done exactly the same.
Any chance of a piccie of your Lotton?
-
Of course Sue. I'll post a picture as soon as it arrives. Where do I post it though? Do I attach it to this post??
Rick
-
;D
I think a Charles Lotton piece would merit a "show and tell" thread, all of its own. 8) 8) 8)
-
How do I do a show and tell? -Rick
-
Just start a new thread in US glass
-
Just start the thread the way you did this one, and give it the title "Charles Lotton, for show" or something like that.
His (illustrious) name needs to be in the title. :)
