Hi,
I'm newbie here and this is my first topic.
I have had this plate for more than 15 years, from the stamps I believe it's designed by Ladislav Oliva
Is it a rare piece?
Any information that can help, the plate is very heavy weighs 5 kg and the diameter is around 35cm
Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to the board!
Wow what a piece to start with...
Yes, very rare and very desirable, one of the most iconic pieces of postwar Czech glass :)
For instance featured in the Ricke book, "Czech glass 1945-1980, design in an age of adversity"

It would make a lovely addition to my house!

Many thanks to you guys for the response,
But do you know how much it worth?
Thanks
-
Values are very subjective. Something is only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it, in that place, at that time, we don't really tend to discuss them here, it's not what the board is for.
However, with such a well-known but scarce piece, I'm sure it would find it's own value in a specialist auction, properly advertised on the web, allowing for international buyers.
I bet I can't afford it!

Thanks again,
But I have seen many designs of glass plates by Oliva.
Are there all in the same category, I mean can all of them be considered as rare pieces or there are some more rare than others.

Hi,
It is a really interesting piece. In terms of price, Oliva's best designs tend to be on the high end of factory produced Czech Glass. I'd say check eBay, but eBay prices for Oliva pieces can be above what most people would pay. It was designed in1960 and was in production until at least 1967. An Internet search should at least give you a range of prices.
A piece I'd find very hard to sell.

I've done a search and tried to find something similar on eBay, but couldn't find any,
I found items like vases, sculptures and paper weights only.
However thanks for the info.

Hello,
I am admiring your Olivas plate and wanted to ask, whether or not you still own it? Sincerely

Hi,
Once ago, I was thinking to part with it, then I changed my mind as I couldn't find someone who admires and appreciates it. I even don't know it's value now. it's been with me for almost twenty years.

Hi,
I only can regret now, that I did not know it before, at the time you were thinking about its sale. In case you change your mind again, I am definitely interested in it, and I think that I could pay at least 1500 CAD for it.
Sincerely
Jan
