Title: New glass shop on Etsy
Post by: glassobsessed on July 30, 2014, 03:27:12 PM
I opened a shop selling glass on Etsy this morning, here is a link to the current offering: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CannaGlass?section_id=all

Stock includes items from Murano (including a couple of nice Archimede Seguso bits), Mdina and Isle of Wight Studio Glass. Only a few bits of Czech glass at present. A little Bohemian and the odd Victorian item too.

Plenty more stock yet to be listed, that should keep me out of trouble for few weeks...

A couple of items have sold already which was a nice surprise.

John

Have never really considered  Etsy, may have to investigate!

The great advantage over using Ebay is the fees, Etsy is significantly cheaper to sell on at 3.5% compared to Ebay's 11% in glass and 15% in antiques. I imagine their sales volumes are lower but at least you stand a chance of making a reasonable profit on what you do actually sell.

As a newbie there I have noticed it is not as intuitive to use as Ebay but so far so good...

Ebay have become very greedy in recent years with fees going up and up. The imposition of a 10% fee on the cost of postage is absurd, 70% of my sales were to Europe and America and that postage fee was a killer.

Well done. Add stock little and often; gets you more views. Fill in the shop title too

Thanks Christine. I thought I had done the shop title thingy but obviously not! There is plenty there that I still need to learn about, all in good time hopefully.

I've only just found that I needed a title.

Thanks for sharing this and the tips re; Etsy.  Great shop and your pricing is very good - I may well become a customer... once I sell a few of my own pieces on and make room in the cabinet!
Best of luck,
V

Thanks very much.

Sometimes I think pricing is more of an art form than a science. I don't have lots and lots of storage space so I need to keep prices as competitive as I can. Hopefully that keeps the stock moving and allows me to go out and buy more, which is by far my favourite bit of it all. ;D

I've noticed a lot of glass coming up from Etsy when doing Google searches these last couple of months. It's something that I might look into when I've some spare time.

There is some sort of link between Etsy and Google's search, I noticed something about this when creating the shop but the technical details are probably a bit beyond my pay grade... :-X

More stock listed and I have added sections to simplify browsing such as Murano, paperweights, hyacinth vases and so on.

Here are the paperweights, nothing 'high end' but includes a Whitefriars door stop, a weight from Peter Layton and a neodymium weight by Galliano Ferro: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CannaGlass?section_id=16012306&ref=shopsection_leftnav_2

A couple of the weights mentioned above have gone but have just added a nice Paul Ysart weight (can someone give me a nudge if I have the attribution wrong please). The link above will take you to the paperweight section.
