Title: Perfume bottle / scent bottle stoppers/daubers
Post by: BobKegeles on July 31, 2014, 09:35:26 PM
I've searched via google and bing for replacement daubers and stoppers, to no avail.

It seems like most people use stopper and dauber interchangeably, I think of a dauber as long, long enough to reach perfume in a bottle, whereas I think of stoppers as short and stubby. Though, to use a cliché, this may be a distinction without a difference.

It seems like even some of the best studio artists use premade daubers, I assume because it's a waste of their talents to spend time making such a simple item.

There seems to be four somewhat standard ones, the long thin reverse teardrop, the "spire" the ball top, and of course (what feels to me cheap) twisted leaf with gold sprinkles.

Since there are sooooo many orphan perfume bottles available sans daubers, (generally sold as "vases"), I'd love to restore them to their previous glory as a perfume bottle.

I must admit, I sometimes shove a wick holder, and wick into them, and call them oil lamps.

I'm assuming they are made in China, I've found identical twisted leaf daubers on US studio made bottles, Murano bottles, and the cheap thin Egyptian bottles. I've found the "reverse teardrop" daubers on bottles from very high end US studio bottles (Lotton, Abelman, etc.) as well as bottles from Mdina.

Can anyone (especially the glass blowers on the site) point me in the right direction, as to where I can purchase a dozen at a time at a reasonable price?

Thanks,

Bob

At one time I might have suggested Isle of Wight Studio Glass, because I know they have made stoppers for folk who find bottles requiring them, but they went into administration, then got bought up by the Harris family again. Tim has just recently set up a new Isle of Wight Studio Glass Ltd. studio, but I don't know if he would help you.

Are there any glassmakers you know personally who might help?
