Title: Is this one Murano?
Post by: RescoCCC on August 01, 2014, 06:52:34 PM
This was part of a group of weights I picked off on the Bay of E. A mixed group with some easily identified Murano and contemporary Chinese weights. This weight had a hand-written label taped to the base claiming Murano, but I have my doubts. What do you experts think? It measures 3 1/4 inches high, and 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Polished, flat base.

Very dubious.  More likely Polish or similar?

Hi.

It is always worth considering China for pieces you are unsure about, or think may be Murano.  There are many, many factories that make 'Murano Glass' products: here is a link to some http://www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/CN/murano-glass.html (http://www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/CN/murano-glass.html). Warning - there are over 7,000 adverts for 'Murano Glass' in the pages linked to - so that gives some idea of the scale of production.

If you narrow the search to 'Murano Glass Paperweight' the number drops to around 260 adverts - and includes examples of pieces that I have seen offered on US eBay as 'Murano'.   http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=murano+glass+paperweight (http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=murano+glass+paperweight).

Quality is better than many expect: eg http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Handmade-Millefori-Mosaic-Paperweight-Murano-Glass_107568379.html (http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Handmade-Millefori-Mosaic-Paperweight-Murano-Glass_107568379.html)

Hi everybody,

I would not be surprised if it was a product from Lithunia,
(some from there are signed NEMUNAS, after the Memel River in Lithunian), 100s of samples by

Remis Kriukas, see this for instance:

Kind regards, E.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it! The good news is that I can't find it on Alibaba, but there sure are a bunch that I see all over eBay.
