Title: Mandruzatto or Czech? Amethyst sommerso pineapple/hedgehog ashtray
Post by: David E on August 20, 2014, 12:31:32 PM
This ashtray is shaped a little like a pineapple, or hedgehog, with its impressed design. It also has a very thin green sommerso layer that is not too obvious from the photos. From first appearances it could be Mandruzatto, but any thoughts are most welcome

Rather nice, looks like high quality work, very controlled.

It might make a good bowl for avacado.  ;D

I think the lip for the cigarette must then be for the stalk?  ;D

I meant to say that Robert did not think it was Czech when I sent photos to him recently.

It looks more like Murano to me. It looks like a vase from a balloton (pineapple) mould cut into two halves to create two ashtrays. Early Mandruzatto is a possibility.

Many thanks David, that's a great help.

I am still wondering about the thin green sommerso layer that can only just about be seen. Perhaps it has some effect on the amethyst core - it's not uranium in case anyone was wondering.
