Title: Signed Tunisian Mdina lookalike sculptural vase
Post by: vanmann on August 20, 2014, 02:11:41 PM
Clear vase with random bubbles similar in style to Mdina sculptural pieces. Signed to base "H.Mahmoum Tunisia 2000".  Assuming tourist tat but have been to Tunisia a couple of times and never sen anything like it. I would be grateful for any thoughts or suggestions.

Why would it be tourist tat!!? Would you describe Mdina glass as tourist tat, because that will be where most of their custom comes from? Tat doesn't generally get signed

;) pre-2000, loads of folk did consider Mdina to be tourist "tat".
I got snorted at, for collecting it.  ;D

I am clueless about this piece. It is a very long time since I went to Tunisia, but I cannot remember seeing any glass there.

This piece does not look moulded to me, (which the Mdina textured pieces are) more free-formed.
