Interested - please - to see if anyone has any opinions about this bowl, which I'm assuming has trailed uranium glass (damn, must find that UV pen)...

Thanks in anticipation.

I'd say Stuart for this one, ;D
-
I'll just add some more photos. I failed to appreciate before that when placed against a white background the glass, particularly on the bottom, has an unusual orange tinge to it.
-
I'm not really sure I like that orange. Makes me feel a bit queasy for some reason. ???
-
I think it's great, goes well with mine... ;D
-
As far as I know Stuart never included uranium in any of their glass, so I'm going to disagree with your suggestion Keith. ;)
Sorry, I can't offer any constructive ideas tho - might the orange colour suggest a more modern piece of glass?? - just thinking out loud really.
Meant to add...... can be helpful to describe the extent or otherwise, of wear - not always possible to see in screen pix if there is any or not, and can make a difference to thoughts on age. Assume I'm seeing a ground/polished pontil - which normally would indicate a piece of reasonable quality.

They did in the early stuff

though I'm not sure the trailed green is uranium
-
apologies - I was thinking of their C20 green coloured glass, that looks often as tho it is u. but never is. :)
-
Loads of wear to the base ring and it's clearly been used as a plant pot holder as there's a really strong circle of wear to the centre of the interior and even lots of rubbing to several points along the interior walls. I've also invested in another uv black light torch thing from eBay so we'll soon know if the trailing is (to quote Paul elsewhere) "a glower".
-
this type of decoration and colour combination - plain green trailing producing a single spiral, plus the crimped rim - does have a precedent. Mervyn Gulliver includes a couple of pieces that appear to have similar features, and for which he gives dates in the last 20 years of the C19, although he doesn't venture to suggest a maker. Have no idea as to the cause of the orange effect.
My own opinion is to say not Stuart, but in truth I'm really not sure, although in any event I think it highly unlikely that a maker would ever be found, and dating is equally difficult.

Hello Paul, have a look at page 120 of said book and see what you think :o ;D ;D ;D
-
oh gosh - guess who didn't look through the entire book. :-[ You're right Keith, certainly is a very good match for Stuart - will spotted.
-
;D ;D
-
but.................... will our thoughts remain with Stuart if it does in fact glow?? :)
By the way, does your opalescent looking piece glow?
-
Excuse the photo my camera does not like uv, ::) ;D ;D
-
thanks Keith - yours is similar to Christine's in having this opalescent appearance, and both glow.
My thoughts are that if this is indeed Stuart then the op's will not glow as it's a different colourway completely - we will see :)
-
Just checked with my super duper new blacklight torch - the trailing doesn't glow.
-
then I think that fact may support the suggestion of a Stuart attribution - but only possibly :)
-
I think this is Stuart and it's an unusual colourway that doesn't come up that often. I think it's particularly beautiful because of the shape and the colours. The green on plain glass trailed versions just don't float my boat.
