Title: Huge brown knobbly vase with pontil mark
Post by: Anne E.B. on August 24, 2014, 04:25:26 PM
Any ideas who made this monster, even monstrous knobbly brown vase please?   It stands some 13" high and weighs a hefty 2145g.
The knobbles are quite pronounced but rounded and I think have been pushed out from the inside.  They are raised on the inside.  The knobbles are placed one underneath another in regimented rows, both horizontal and vertical and the vase rests on the bottom ones.  It has a pontil mark on the base as shown below.

Nothing like the knobbles on my Thomas Webb bowl, and from what I can find out here, can't be a Borske Sklo vase because of its base.
Help!   ???

Yours looks to be slightly more flared at the top, but I think it has the same number of knobbles top to bottom i.e. 9  ???
I'm sure they're related :)
Many thanks for the suggestion Ivo.  I hadn't considered Empoli.

Why do the words "exterminate, exterminate" (said in an electronic voice) spring to mind looking at the pics?

I agree!  Not that I am a fan of Dr.Who, nor the vase really ;)
