Hi all pulled the trigger on this one hoping it was old Chinese ;D,i've got a few books on the way but in the meantime,any thoughts.many thanks.

Definitely Chinese . I bought many of these and resold them in the 80's, cost then was about $2.75-3.50ea.

Yes< bought them new. I think it was United Pacific Trading Co. San Francisco.

Interesting FG,do you remember what they were called,i don't know if they were trying to copy anything else but they do have a Chinese/Japanese aesthetic,it was £7.00 posted so it may not have increased in price since the 80's ;)

I call these Chinese dogwood paperweights.  It is nice to be able to put a timestamp on them.  I always thought they were earlier 1930s to 1950s.

Chinese could be very nice like this weight.
