Title: Big, black stripey thing - bit like fat lava!
Post by: Mr. Turnip on September 15, 2014, 05:17:21 PM
Recently aqquired this whopper. It's 400mm high and quite thick 'n heavy. Bottom has been ground flat and has a matt finish. I've not been able to find anything quite like it in books or on 'net yet. The previous owner thought it was Murano but I don't know about that.

I've got quite a few things now with 'Murano' stickers on them and I don't believe any of them were actually made in Murano! Those Italians don't help themselves when it comes to credibility it would seem. As always any opinions greatly appreciated.

China is always my first thought for anything described as a "whopper" plus the matt ground base, the thick glass and the less than accurate banding.

(Your other recent vase was made in Italy, just not Murano)

Thanks for that, yes China. I think I'll probably join you in that thought now. I think I'm going to remember your points this time so next time I see vases of this type I'll not need to ask again. I might keep the black one to remind me.
