Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can help ID this item? It has a particularly beautiful iridescence over pale green glass, a snapped pontil and substantial wear to the foot rim. Could it be Eastern European? Could it possibly be a Pantocsek? Or is it a Steuben piece? Or is it Venetian and I'm barking up the wrong tree? I've been puzzling over this so long that I'm really rather lost now! Any advice greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
That is lovely, silly question but can you check the base and confirm there is no engraved signature? Just so we can rule out a couple of possibilities.

Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here :) I've gone round and round the foot rim with a loup but can find absolutely nothing but wear. Perhaps there was something once upon a time.
I did also ask a glass specialist of one of the major auction houses for their opinion by email but, after reading their verdict yesterday, it's left me somewhat surprised and I can't help but disagree with them. So I've not replied! Maybe I'm being too dismissive though...

Lovely thing - do you have a UV torch to check if it contains uranium?

The pitcher has been made in the style of a Roman vessel, many companies have made glass in this way and for quite a long time too.
I asked if it was signed because I have had a couple of beautifully made pitchers from these guys (scroll down for a blue one): http://www.romanglassmakers.co.uk/freeblow.htm
but their signatures were very clear and legible.
I have this little vase with handles and lions head prunts which seems to have a few similarities, after I flailed around looking for an attribution Fritz Heckert was suggested to me and that seems to me like the most likely bet as things stand.

At This time Fritz Heckert was largely a refiner/finisher -not a glass maker - these do both look like blanks of the style bought in by Heckert and others, to decorate. Original maker could be anyone of a number of blank makers but highest on my list would be either Josephine or Harrach.

Yes it does glow. Very strongly too, particularly on the handle and foot where the glass is thicker.

What a beautiful vase! I like it a lot! I did happen upon that Roman Glass page while searching around for makers of repro antiquity type glass - and the similar vessel to mine right at the bottom of the page - after toying with and attempting to rule out the possibility that it may indeed be modern. Fritz Heckert is an interesting avenue to search, which I will do so now. Many thanks :)

Thanks Mike. So if they were finished by Heckert it would have been Heckert adding the iridescence?
For reference - no uranium content in mine.
