Title: Please help to identify this pressed milk glass covered dish.
Post by: nick.a on September 16, 2014, 01:38:14 PM
Hi, I'm new to glass collecting and this site, so please excuse any gaffs or breaches of protocol.
I have a number of pieces which i've been unable to identify, so any assistance would be gratefully received.
The first piece is a pressed milk/opalescent glass lidded dish. It is decorated with oak leaves and acorns with an acorn finial on the lid. There are no distinguishing factory marks just some concentric circles on the base, which I believe to be press/plunger marks.
Thanks in advance for your help.
regards
nick

The circles on the base are part of the mould. Seem familiar too... ???

Hi Nick
I'm pretty new on here myself but have been collecting pressed glass for a lot of years so I'll have a go at this.
Used to see this pattern around quite a lot, but I think this is the first one I have seen with a lid. As Frank said the concentric circles on the base are part of the mould, not particularly press/plunger marks, they would have shown up better when the piece was pressed in clear glass. These 'rings' are seen on pieces of Davidsons pearline, and they are also present on the 'bugle' vase (Slack page 84, Hajdamach page 349) which is attributed to Davidson. So I would say Davidson circa 1890.
