Title: Small Fenicio Vase...
Post by: busterj on September 27, 2014, 01:50:47 PM
Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased this small vase and was wondering if anyone had any information about it.

I was told it was by Fratelli Toso and probably from the early 20th century.

It stands at 3.75 in/ 9.5 cm.

Thanks for having a look,

rob

Seems likely, Fenicio vases were also made for Salviati at the time. It appears a little unusual in not having handles - any sign that it once had a handle or two?

I did check the piece for signs of handles but there is no roughness or breaks on the sides.

Looking through Pina's Fratelli Toso book, the forms of the Fenicio vases and the vases made with Murrine or millefiori are very similar (roughly the same time period too). There are only a few Fenicio examples shown but many made with murrine are illustrated, a small percentage do not have handles so I see no reason to exclude Toso as a maker.
