Title: Bohemian / Silesian ?
Post by: donaldf on October 03, 2014, 01:58:42 PM
Hi All. Is this lovely old girl from Bohemia / Silesia or is it from one of the American factories? It has a flat polished base. The dome is flat at the crown. It is not as heavy as a similar sized French weight. It feels warmer to the touch than an old French weight. It has trouble reading maps and has a good sense of humour....(just kidding about the last two !).... and also, I know it is indiscreet, but how old is she?

Thanks

Don

Hi Don.  It is Silesian or Thuringian - fairly typical design from the 1880 - 1910 era.  The base is usually a slightly matte polish, and not always an accurate circle.
