Title: glass slab - what is it?

Hi,
I got this glass slab in with another piece at auction.
does anyone have any idea what it is? A student piece perhaps?
it's about 34cm high x 10cm x 3cm deep - it's decorated in the middle (like a sandwich) and on the back.
