Post by: petet63 on October 11, 2014, 03:40:44 PM
Hi all, a friend of mine is looking for info on this Tankard. A very heavy piece of Glass 624g. 11.5cm in Height. Engraved around the upper half  'slice' cuts around the lower half. I haven't seen these before so cant help even after searches. How old is it and any other help appreciated?

Hi, it is a Victorian tankard from the mid to late 19th century.  The period of pteridomania. (craze for ferns).   They were made very robustly and there are a fair number of them around.

Hi Neil, Thanks for the info. Robust does not quite describe the Tankard :o It is practically unbreakable ! It now makes sense that there would be a few left around. Would not want to be around back then if a drunk threw one. Solid but very little room for liquid. Much appreciated Neil.
