Dear Forum,
I recently acquired this pair of dark purple cut crystal vases, they are in a Josef Hoffman, Weiner Werkstatte geometric style. No marks on either vase, they are about 10 1/2 inches high. The bases are completely polished and have wear, indicating some age. Are they one of Hoffmann's designs?
Thanks,
Keith

Looks like it may have been made by Ludwig Moser Karlsbad around 1920, could still be a Hoffmann design though...

Unless you can find a reference to this specific model you must assume they are generic panel cut vases from the 19th. There have been many makers of these in Bohemia.

I found this piece which is similar, but there are serious doubts about the mark. The poster said Moser confirmed it was one of theirs though... http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/93132-moser-karlsbad-crystal-vase-1920-but-th?in=750

Thanks for your reply Ivo, I am looking at all the records I can find, but it is a difficult search...

Ask Moser, they are really nice people and as well documented as you hope.
In my previous posting, where I typed 1930s this silly tablet autocorrected to 19th. On behalf of Google I offer my apologies.

Thanks Ivo, I just sent them an email! Is there a museum or group who would know if it was a Hoffmann design?

I received a reply back from Moser and they said it was not one of theirs...

Here is one on Ancient Point with gold decoration described by the owner as Moser... http://ancientpoint.com/inf/113279-moser_art_deco_amethyst_neoclassical_design_14k_gold_gild_faceted_art_glass.html

Adolf Rascha was another maker of these panel cut pieces in dark amethyst and also green.
There is precious little information that maker but I have a perfume on another thread where I mentioned his name, so it might come up with links for you to look at.
I did not work out however, whether his pieces were always signed or not, but it may give you something else to search on :)
