I see what you mean Joe, maybe it will have a better chance of ID in Paperweights.

I spotted it in a local collectables centre i nipped in to use the bathroom while on a delivery looked unusual so thought i can do without my bacon sandwich for one day ;D

Was it not a reasonably common practice at Strathearn that, if a pwt's dome had gone wonky during the making and it was possible to try to convert it into something else, such as a pin dish, and thus at least preserve the lampwork and canes and the time, effort and resources spent making those parts; that was done.

Paperweight bowls and dishes were made at various Scottish companies.

The circle of canes (for me) points to Caithness, 1985...1995 time range. A quick look didn't turn up the corresponding paperweight - but Zinnia (of 1987 - see attachment) shows why I feel it could be Caithness and the above time period. On the other hand - the lampwork is rather crude: could it be a practice piece, leaning towards a common style at the time?

Hi guys
been looking around the web and ive seen the cane shape in work by vasart and peter mcdougall so as kevin said could be any of the factories i did wonder if vasart made any lampwork items as only seen items with millefiori canes?

As far as I know, Vasart (both the Ysart Bros and Vasart Ltd periods) did not make lampwork flower items such as seen in this bowl. And I have never yet seen an item like this by Paul Ysart.
The main candidates would be: Perthshire Paperweights, Caithness Glass, John Deacons and maybe Willie Manson or Selkirk but the garland canes do not seem right for those last two.

Hi kevin
I didnt think that vasart/yasart bros didnt make lampwork items (always safe to ask!) My first thought was caithness and the piece posted by wuff makes a compelling case for it being caithness :)

Hi. It is worth remembering that Willie Manson (and other Scottish makers) have run a lot of 'learn to make paperweight' courses. When I went on one, each of us came away with around 10 reasonably competently made paperweights - millefiori, lampwork, facets...whatever. Some of these will reach (or maybe have reached) the market in time. So do not discount the possibility that what you have is the work of a keen but amateur maker!

A very good point, Alan. :)

I can see its going to be very difficult to pin it down to a maker i like
it as its different and didnt cost the earth i suppose thats the main thing :)
thanks guys
