Have we had one of these on the message board before?
It is solid and stands about 6.5cm tall (2.5"). With a loupe I can see that the remains of the label reads Wedgwood Crystal England. So it dates from the time period when Wedgwood and Dartington were cooperating. The smoke colour has a distinct lilac tinge which does not show up well in these photos.
So what is this object for, a paperweight or something else?

A very kind person has been in touch (thank you T) to tell me that this is the base for a candle lamp, the Rory Two Piece Candlelamp FJT12. It is shown complete with shade, bottom right on page 182, Dartington Glass the First Twenty Years, so it will date to the mid 1980s. I missed it completely when I looked. :-X

I have to confess to having been curious myself.
I saw one in the cabinet in Cancer Research and I couldn't help them with what (on earth) it was. :-[
-
Not much use without the shade though Sue, saying that the shades do crop up on their own at bootsales and the like as the parts often get separated.
-
I don't know what the shades look like to know what to look out for. Too late now anyway. That charity shop was closed because it wasn't making enough profits. It was in profit - good profit, but apparently not enough. The local community was up in arms about it, but to no avail. :'(

There is one on ebay at the moment, search for "wedgwood crystal rory" to take a look. I have not added a link as it will just end up as another dead link in time.
-
I have asked the seller if they would be kind enough to allow us to use their photo here so we have a reference.... I will let you know if they agree and post the picture here.
-
Good idea, I never think to do that for some reason.
-
I would like to thank the seller for giving me permission to share her photos with you for permanent reference, so here they are:
Mod: For completeness, the images are from eBay seller "aunthettie"

Great, thanks for organising the photos Rosie, much better than a link that becomes useless after a month or three.
