Title: Getting a stopper out of a perfume that is stuck
Post by: ahremck on January 07, 2015, 04:05:37 AM
I have this nice perfume with its dibber/stopper firmly stuck in place.  I am sure one or more methods to remove it are known amongst you.  Can you help please?

Expect you'll get a flood of replies Ross, but in the meantime here's a link with some - possibly - helpful suggestions.

I thought we'd discussed this subject to death some years back, but can't now seem to find much.      If other threads do surface I'll add them.

A good tip, thank you. If you have an old bottle with dried out Cork in it, house hold AMMONIA is said too dissolve most of it in a few days. Bob

for glass to glass contact problems think it's also been suggested to try proprietary penetrating oils such as WD40  -  and seem to remember someone said warm olive oil............  both of which might be aided by lateral pressure on the stopper.
logically I'd have thought of suggesting warming the body of the article   .....  with the thought that some heat might create expansion thus helping to free the stopper.            However, perhaps the body might not take kindly to that method  -  I'm not sure.

I've tried, unsuccessfully, to use (GENTLE!) heat to try to expand the outside while not the inside - no use whatsoever. :(

The tap method worked.  I tapped the bottle with the handle of a small screwdriver. and after a minute or so out it came.  Must remember to put on a little petroleum jelly as it breaks the surface tension.
