Hi, I picked up 9 of these in an auction lot. I need help with age of these. They are confusing to me. They look old in style and in the Measure mark. No wear to the base. Looks like it is made in 2 pieces. 18.5 in Height 8.5 diameter lip and 9cm Diameter Foot. I might be being extremely stupid on these but 6/2 cl makes no sense to me ??? Will make for great wine glasses my OH says ;D

no idea as to date other than saying probably very modern......... as regards the volume indicator, how about six 20ths of a litre - does that sound about to right make a suitable volume of wine for these?
-
Old in style but fairly modern I agree. Not seen this style offered before. Will work on 6/20 of a litre. Cheers Paul ;D

No idea of maker or age but I can say that modern drinking glasses have 'ceramic' printing on them for volume indication, and that is usually high up in the glass,
If you have decent electronic kitchen scales do this:
Place glass on scales and turn on. Have it set for grams measurement.
Indicator should say 0g
Slowly fill to measure line with clean water.
What's the mass of water filled to line in grams?
1g = 1ml
1000ml / 20 = 50ml
2000ml = 20cl
6 X 50ml = 300ml < don't sound or look right.
50ml / 6 = 8.33.ml < not correct.
2000ml / 6 = 333.3.ml < that doesn't look correct either.
We need that mass measurement of water at that line to get anywhere with what the engraving is.
Are all glasses marked the same 6/20cl or do the number go 1-12/20cl?
Maybe these are some wine tasting thing, where the wine sits low in a glass and odd measures may apply. Could it be a 'provincially' influenced measure?

I think we had this question regarding old liquid measures several years ago (2008?), but I cannot find that thread again. Needing Ivo's knowledge and assistance, please! (I might recall it was him who helped with detailed information at that time...) :-*

Whats the maximum capacity of the glass?
Easiest to use mass of water than using measuring cups or spoons to reckon how much.
Is the measure line 1/6th of the total ?
-
Hi all, sorry for late reply. The glass when filled up to the mark on the scale shows 298g approx 300ml in the measuring jug. All the glasses are marked the same. 6/2 cl makes no more sense than 6/20 l ??? ???

Hi ,
How about this , 1 20th of a litre is 50 ml 6x 1 20th = 300 ml.
cheers ,
Peter.

I have never asked for that in any place I have been ;D ;D Thanks Peter.

perhaps the Continental system of capacities is different to ours........... their glasses do seem often to show an engraved indication of an intended volume.
Here there seems no specific method of differentiating between a large or small glass of wine - other than that they obviously do differ in volume, but the capacity isn't marked on the glass - specific sized glasses are used for pints and half pints - and shorts are measured by means of volume within the air lock of the dispensing bottle.
But for some reason it seems we don't use engraved marks on glasses.
Of course it could be that we do mark glasses, and I just don't get out enough ;)

Hi Pete,
lol maybe you don't get out much either , many continental glasses both old and new are marked in various ways , you have measured the contents and revealed it was 300 ml approx, so the mark obviously equates to 300 ml or 6/20ths of a litre, why it was marked this way and who for I dont know ( I am sure no one asked for 6/20ths of a litre please) , a bar maybe and it was the largest wine measure , i think you have the answer as to what the mark means ,which both Paul and Misha also mentioned.
cheers ,
Peter.

I dont get out enough Peter !! Unit measures are bad enough in this country without six parts of anything ;D 300ml of wine anyone ;D
