Title: italian satin crackle decanter?? or something else....?
Post by: Scott134 on January 21, 2015, 11:19:56 PM
Hello.  I wasn't sure about this piece.  It has a raised design on the body and I almost thought it was mold blown but it is irregular and inconsistent. It has an added spout and handle and two bands of rigaree.  There is a pontil mark.  The stopper is a pheasant or peacock. Overall satin or frosted finish.  It is about 13" tall with stopper in place.

I have searched Italian glass and can't find anything similar.

Any identification ideas or help would be appreciated.  Thanks much!

You're thinking in the right direction but I'm not convinced you will find the answer any time soon. If I look at the spout I would say Gordiola (Mallorca) or Altare (Italy). The rigaree points at Gordiola or Murano - Gordiola used experienced Murano glassblowers. The crackle is very Murano and so is the griffon stopper.  All in all,  there are several options, and a few more because nothing is always 100% certain.
