Hi,
I found this a few days ago and is similar in some respects to the conch shell........
It is 6 inches high and well made sitting on a base that has 6 groves in it ( maybe this relates in some way to the 6 toed elephant footed pieces.
Note the extra gather of glass to form the fins and tail.
Enjoy.
Patrick.

I think I am seeing 'Unturned Ruby' in the foot............
-
Please can you explain what ' unturned ruby ' is as I'm a bit of a glass numpty ! ::)
-
Hi Mike,
They would be using soda Ruby
When a 'gather' of soda Ruby is formed into a design, unless it is REHEATED it will not turn into Ruby but will be amber in colour ...........
The glass will only achieve its final color upon reheating the item in the glory hole. In its molten state, the glass resembles an amber color.
'Amberina' pieces being the result of the second heating being uneven.
Maybe a glass blower can explain it better.
Cheers,
Patrick.

Hello from Australia :) I would like to make a couple of observations, firstly although this fish is not the most attractive piece it clearly has been made with a good deal of skill. To my eye alot of different and practised processes have been undertaken to make this fish. It also looks like the base has 8 ridges not 6?
