Title: Mystery Glass
Post by: singingyamada on February 07, 2015, 09:18:18 AM: I am so stuck with the piece. I feel its Czech but dont know why6. I dont know the shape. I think its hand painted. Any help would be much appreciated especially the name of the shape. Thanks

Murano seems unlikely as they only seem to gild/silver on the highly enamelled pieces and more conventional shapes. The base doesn't seem right either. Mid-century Czech is a possibility but the gilding and the base seem not quite right. Japan? There is the possibility that the gilding is home applied I suppose.

I don't think Czech or Italian with the base as it is. I think possibly Romanian.
Also Baijan glass use that shape a lot but I've never seen clear amber with gilding.

I asked around here, and was told by a Czech collector that it was Bohemia in the early eighties. What struck me is that he was so apologetic about the fact that such an ugly piece was made in his country. He sounded embarrassed.
