This is my latest flea market buy. It has a silver hallmarked rim. Would be grateful if anyone can tell the age and maker if possible. Thanks so much.
-
Hello,
Would it be possible to show the hallmarks please?
-
Probably Bohemian, 1900-20 at a guess, have one similar with metal collar in E.P.N.S
-
I can see at least four hallmarks so that fits.... on French solid silver you wouldn't find 4 marks (re title).
-
It was very black but I cleaned it up a bit . I think the middle one is a lion? Is that English?
-
Yes, the one in the middle looks like the 'lion passant', guarantee that it is at least 925/1000 silver.
The one on the very left are the initials from the manufacturer, the second one is for the year (looks like a G) and the one on the far right the essay office, but I can't really see what it is, looks like London (leopards head).
-
I suffer a collapsed discs, C5-C6-C7, that crushes nerves serving the right arm.... despite medication I need the image rotated to avoid pain.
;)

Hi Misha,
The DL probably refers to David Loebl who was a mounter/worker in control of the London branch of Schindler & Co of Goblonz, Austria. See http://www.silvercollection.it/englishsilvermarksXD2.html .
If you can discern the hallmark letter, then you will be able to date the silver here; http://www.silvercollection.it/englishsilverhallmarks.html ,which will give you an approximate date for the vase.
Schindler have been discussed on this forum before, see http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=57935.0 and this, like Keith, points towards Bohemian origins.
Regards
Nick
