Title: What is the base of this paperweight made of please ?
Post by: Drallum on February 18, 2015, 11:26:08 PM
Hi,

I'm new to the forum and wondered if anyone could please tell me what the base of this paperweight is made of ?

The weight is faceted with a flat top, but the canes seem to be set into a yellow type base that doesn't look like glass (it sort of looks like a 'powdery, matt type' substance).

Any help would be appreciated,

Douglas

Hi, welcome to the Board.

The base is made of finely powdered yellow glass. The weight was made by Strathearn Glass in Scotland and could have been made any time from 1964 to 1980.

Check out http://strathearn.smugmug.com/ for details on Strathearn weights and their designs.
