Title: Identifying a mark on the base of a glass bowl
Post by: blondiegirl on March 10, 2015, 09:12:17 PM
Hi Everyone
I wonder if there is some kind member who could please help me to identify a mark which is etched on the bottom of a glass bowl. I struggled to get a good clear photo of it, so fingers crossed that someone can recognize it. Thank you and hopefully hear from you soon.
Regards
Juliette

Josef Riedl from Austria. Most likely of course,  having not seen the full item

Josef Riedl from Austria. Most likely of course, ...
That was my first thought ... but then: not on their listing of trademarks (http://www.riedel.com/history/trademark/). They only show a "before 1990" mark, not telling since when. So the mark in question could be an early one.

Don't think this is a Riedel mark...
No conclusion reached here either, Ivo suggested Czech >> Link (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,58656.0.html)

A pic of the whole thing would be helpful! ;D

Hi,
This looks similar to the letter format BJ on the label here: http://oz.kurzy.cz/sklarny-bratri-jilkove-sro/glassworks-kamenicky-senov-czech-republic-p92248z192955u.htm.
'Sklárny Bratři Jílkové' translates to 'Glassworks Brothers Jílkové' who are or were 'Jilkove Bros., Kamenicky Senov, Czech Republic'.
I haven't found a sandblasted mark on the net, but it's a lead that might be worth pursuing.
The website is here http://sklarna-bj.sluzby.cz  and contact email given is: mitrnka @ tiscali.cz.
If you have no joy you might try sending your pic. to the people at this site in Kamenicky Senov: http://www.glassicenter.cz
they seem to be a centre for local glass works so should know.

The subject has been discussed on this site before :

Good luck
