Title: NID Please for Covered Footed Dish - Bohemian (?)
Post by: dbright56 on April 05, 2015, 02:47:33 PM
This is a pretty piece and the photos do not do it justice.  I don't know much about it - it was purchased in Niagara Falls, N.Y, in the USA.  I did send photos to the Corning Museum in Rochester, N.Y. for some direction.

It was suggested that this is likely a twentieth century Bohemian piece that has features that resemble items made by the Pfohl Family.

I was asked if there is a signature.  I have tried to show the markings that might be a signature in the last photo - an uppercase "M" and lowercase "eiz" (I think).  I am hoping that someone will be familiar with this signature.

The piece stands 5 inches tall, without the lid. The opening is 3 inches in diameter, as is the base. The lid is approximately 3 1/2 inches.

Any information will be much appreciated.  Thank you.

hi  -  not that it will help with an id unfortunately, but just to say that it's probable that the comment this "has features that resemble items made by the Pfohl Family.", is a reference to the enamel painted floral pieces from this factory - some of which are exquisite - they may possibly have produced more pieces decorated with flowers than other factories.                 Most of their floral work looks to have been produced in the first third of the C20, but other Bohemian factories during that period also produced similar work, so not perhaps an easy question to answer.

According to the Truitt's book - 'Collectible Bohemian Glass 1880 - 1940', artists known to be  working at this factory were Erwin, Pfohl Neuwelt, Julius Posselt, Alexander Pfohl (junior and senior), Brigitte..........   none of which appear to have 'eiz' in their name.

Let's hope that someone will have the answer for you.         A very attractive piece by the way. :)

welcome to GMB!

This is  no  signature but 'tendrils' of sweet pea or similar, I believe  :)

I would agree with Pamela's thoughts - must admit I had overlooked your comments about a possible signature.
