Title: St. Louis paperweight?
Post by: VintageRed on April 15, 2015, 01:02:20 AM
Hi! I should start off by saying I know little to nothing about paperweights. But I picked this one up the other day and it seems to be by St. Louis? I was hoping you more knowledgable folks could confirm this for me, and maybe tell me what the name of the flower/pattern? It's a pink flower on a blue background, with "SL 1986" in the center of the flower. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi.  It is a Saint-Louis piece - probably one of the editions made for the USA.  I think the flowers in these Saint-Louis designs are stylised flowers - not accurate representations of real flowers.  There probably was a specific design name, but they tend to be referred to as '1986 Flower on blue ground' or '1973 Flower on pistachio ground' etc.

According to Ingold's book it is (translated from German) "miniature paperweight, pink flower on turquoise ground, edition size 250".
