This round vase it 6" diameter and about 4½" high. Solid, not cased, red with an orange hint and unsigned it sits on a slightly raised base. I had seen a similar shape vase in a glass lot auction described as Swedish and I made a note to myself to check Elme Glasbruk. After many happy hours looking at hundreds of vases I'm no further along in figuring out it's origin but I've had a lovely time looking. I hope this will be an easy ID for you that know glass much better than I. Much thanks for direction.

It looks very much like two I have here, and which are discussed in this topic: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17315.0.html - like you I thought of Scandi, and of Ronald Stennett-Willson (UK), but when I did find a labelled one it simply said Imported for Woolworths, without a maker or country of origin. I think they are rather nice!

Hi Anne, Yes I agree I believe it looks like the same line of vases. Woolworth's went out of business here in the US back some 18 years ago or so. I assume that in the UK it was the same type of low cost general items store as it was here.

Later than that here - 2008/9 - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolworths_Group - they sold cheaper items but did get some better stuff in too. Middle of the road rather than posh! :)

Interesting reading, it looks like the UK Woolworths might have been a tad bit upscale from the US Woolworths. Thanks for your help!

Only a tad upscale if at all. It did seem to have quite a lot of stuff specially made for it in the UK
