Title: Amethyst bell/stirrup cup?
Post by: bat20 on April 29, 2015, 12:19:09 PM
Hi all, this piece is 12cm high,I think soda glass with inclusions of white bits and air bubbles, the glass is an amethyst colour with hints of brown and the handle black, hopefully hinting at early use of manganese.?,but I have seen this type of engraving on recent pieces, basically a depression with lines cut through, any thoughts or hunches on this one many thanks.

This piece has been good in so much as my amethyst glass knowledge has increased immeasurably through the Intoe and my R.Wilkinson book, great chapter on colour history, can't find any engraving similar to this apart from a light Edwardian tumbler I have with a flower done using this line effect,I would let it go it's just the soft surface and white stones and typical bubbles of an older glass, plus depth and colour of the amethyst that has me intrigued for the moment.
