I am useless on crystal items. Acquired this recently which stands around 10". Could anyone help on age and origin please?

Beautiful piece but putting a name will be difficult unless it's a known shape, it could be late victorian to the 1960s, I'd be surprised if it was newer than that, Walsh did similar so did Webb and Stuart, it looks English but that's just my opinion, check the base for faded marks they can be very difficult to see, ;D ;D

have been over the base with a fine tooth comb and nothing unfortunately :(

Looks Victorian to me 1880's is there much wear on the base, lovely cutting, how sharp are the cuts, Regards Chris.

The fine cut diamonds, chunky stepped foot, turned over rim and apparent grayish tint would all suggest to me that this is an early 19th century piece (1800-1830s-ish), probably Irish or English.
However, cut glass isn't my strong point and this style has been reproduced so we'll see what others have to say. A more descriptive thread title might help attract the experts.
One thing that would rule out an early date would be if the vase has been finished by acid polishing rather than wheel polishing. Acid polishing gives a very bright finish but tends to soften the sharp edges of cuts. If the cuts feel sharp to to the touch then it's a good sign.

If it's 200 years old the base should show damage chips and wear on a big piece of old glass, does the rounded foot look Georgian ?.

The thick foot and multi-point star especially all look right to me, though the problem is my books on glass of this period are old and the information may no longer be accurate. However, round feet with stars are definitely found: see plates 141 and 142 of Crompton's English Glass, for example, both Anglo-Irish, 1800-1820 (though the feet on these both lack the stepped design seen here).
Stepped feet are seen on Georgian drinking glasses like this little one here, however, dated c.1780:
http://www.martelmaidesauctions.com/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=F80489+++196+&refno=40091467&saletype= so as far as I can see the individual design features all fit with an early 19th century date. Given the popularity of the style though and the fact it's been revived several times I think dating is going to have to come down to things like the color of the glass, signs of wear, how it's finished and whether the overall form and proportions are right for the period.
Either way, it's a fantastic vase and great quality 8)

Had a look through the back of the Walsh book, can't see any similar designs.

Hi chris, the cuts are actually pretty sharp

I was thinking it might be an early vase due to the stepped base, although as I said ID'ing crystal really isn't my strong point. It does have little bits of damage here and there. Looks a little grey on the main image because I tweaked the image to accentuate it as my camera is brilliant at glass. Have added another couple of pics
