Title: Bohemian face paperweight ???
Post by: malcmat on May 06, 2015, 11:19:34 AM
Really not sure about this weight with the face inside and double facet ground polished cut around the outside. Lots of ware on the base foot and the inner portion is concave ground and polished. 3 1/4 inches dia and 1 1/2 inches tall the top is concave as well.

Many thanks
Malcolm

Hi.  I do not recognise the sulphide, but I am sure somebody will.  However, I suspect this may be a Belgian or Alsace paperweight.

Hello everybody,

attribution to Leopold I. of Belgium (1831-1865) is completely right, interesting because the later ones with Leopold II are found more often, have a look at the 5 Francs coin, the sulphide model was possibly taken from that coin type,

-the coin picture was omitted for copyright reasons, so please check the website above- or search Leopold I. Belgium 5 Francs,

Kind regards E.
