Hi all,I bought this piece with some other interesting bits and bobs,but this is what I was after as I'd like to think,hoping,it's a piece of Powell straw opal glass?,yes Christine it does!,needing a good clean with no chips cracks or nuffink ,it stands 11cm high with a nice polished pontil,any thoughts thanks.

Unfortunately a lot of companies made straw opal but it doesn't look delicate enough for Powel. Is the top half irridescent?

::)yup....,are you thinking Kempton or the like Christine?,it is light,but I get what your saying,I guess the bulbous base might be something Powell didn't do!

Yes it is,quite subtle though and the photo done outside intensified the opal,it looks a lot more delicate in the real,perhaps not enough for Powell,I'm thinking more towards Walsh now I think?

If it's irridescent with a kind of gentle crackle, it's most likely Walsh Walsh Canary Opalescent

Ummm,Given you have a lot more feel about these things than me all I can add is under a magnifying glass the irridesent is more like millions of tiny dots,it's glassy up to the rim witch is more opal blue in the folds and most of the irridesent is in that area aswell,not getting mother of pearl on this particular piece,as an add on it has that clear brittle ring that rightly or wrongly I associate with turn of the century glass,maybe a tad more tinny in this case.

It should have a good lead crystal ring if Walsh.

It has a clear ring,but a brittle ring if that makes any sense,the other thing I should mention is the pontil is is quite large.Still it's a niece thing maker or no maker :)

Hi,just a question on cleaning this type of glass without doing damage,funnily the base has quite easily removed dirt,further up there is some light scale of some sort, at the top in the folds some thicker deposits,witch seems a bit odd to me?,that I have been able to remove a few bits with light rubbing with my thumb nail,just as another bit of info the base ,in the thickest parts,there is a distinct green end of the yellow spectrum colour when viewed from above.

Ok,I'll take the silence as a green light to treat it like any other glass. :)
