Title: Leech or tea light jar
Post by: bat20 on May 17, 2015, 02:54:41 PM
Hi all,I found a few bits this morning at sparrows and this little jar is the only one I'm not sure about,6cm ht,the rim 6.5 to outside,it has three seams and a sort of flower pontil, dragging your nail around the outside of the foot You can feel wear, the rim looks worked,I hope you can see from the pictures,it's a sort of turquoise blue,so a lovely piece of medical history or a ghastly piece of Mexican tat?many thanks.

I've certainly seen similar shaped pieces sold as leech jars; however, seed pot might be more likely. See Ivo's post here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,52674

We have some differing opinions on these. I say leech pot. I think there's a similar one to yours on ebay now, also called leech jar or pot (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201350135210?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT).

Whatever the date, it was blown into a mould and the rim was hand shaped.
