Hi guys
bought this piece and im not sure if its the genuine hoop vase a copy or fake (not that i know the difference between a copy or fake ;D) the size is approx 11.1/2 inches high and 5.1/4 inches at widest point and weight is 1820 grammes
I thought id take the chance it was ok as a gamble, any info would be grateful and pointers for the future
cheers

This is a link to emmi's blogspot on "wannabees".
I've had a look through - the page on fake hooped things seems to be unavailable, but it might work on your computer.

Failing a search there, you might need to go to whitefriars.com to ask.

I did read somewhere a long time ago about this shape vase (I cannot remember where it was now), that someone did buy the moulds and were making vases from the moulds, but not in the colours Whitefriars used.

It looks more like a copy to me, the 'pontil mark' appears moulded instead of ground and polished, whereas the base looks ground and polished when it should be moulded. It is harder to tell from photos but the green does not quite look right either, I hope I am wrong...
Copies are regularly found in small and now large Bricklayers, onion vases and this hooped shape, can't say I have seen them in any other shapes.

Joe contacted me recently about this vase, and I told him I was of the opinion it is a fake. It is always tricky with trying to ascertain something from photos - but John is right about the pontil mark, and another giveaway for me is the general shape of the top sections . On the real thing there is more of an "organic" shape, whereas on the fakes it is rather too "regimented." The colour is pretty close to that of the Whitefriars colour Meadow Green, but not exact. It is one of the fakers better colours and easy to be fooled.
Sorry about the link on my Wannabee blog not working, but I think that is something to do with the .com site having been "reshuffled" in recent times. Here, however is a link to a discussion on the forum which may be of interest
