Title: Help Newbie with Mystery Paperweight. ID = Saint-Louis (antique)
Post by: born slippy on May 19, 2015, 12:11:15 AM
Hi Everyone, I am hoping some body will recognise this paperweight I picked up a while ago but have not been able to find another quite like it.

Your picture is too small for this message board.  From the color scheme and pattern, I am going to offer the opinion that it is an antique St. Louis paperweight.  But, to be sure, please post a larger picture.

Hi.  I am with Allan on this one - almost certainly antique Saint-Louis.  I have seen rather similar St Mandé designs, but the canes look like Saint-Louis. A better image will help confirm the attribution.

Many thanks guys, I really struggled to get the pic up, each time it would say the image is too large, the one posted is only 100 across the top. I will try another at 300 and also a pic of the base. Forgot to say it measured 4.5cm

I still think it is an antique St. Louis weight from 1845-1860.  At 4.5 cm, we would call it a Miniature Antique St. Louis Concentric paperweight.

Hi.  I sometimes refer to this pattern with 5 canes spaced around a centre one as a  'rondello', and I think some others do too.
