Title: Crackle shot/tumbler glass
Post by: bat20 on May 27, 2015, 06:58:00 PM
Hi,I posted this glass ages ago, can't find the thread ::),before I had a camera that can do better close ups,so here it is again with what I take to be some sort of bird stamp to the base,as a reminder it has inclusions in the glass but It's quite bright, anyone recognise the stamp ,thanks.

Would I be right in thinking the softness of the mark would be due to the making process of crackle glass?

It is a bit of a weird item as it is not the classical crackle technique. To me it looks as if the pontil mark has been melted out with a blowtorch, a technique much used in countries where energy is cheap and grinding expensive. You see this a lot in Chinese glass.
I think the hot glass has been shaped in a cold mould, hence the strange uneven surface. You did not mention the size of this beast. I assume it is a vase not a longdrink glass?
