Title: Pair of "Tye" shape/model hyacinth vases for show.
Post by: Anne E.B. on May 30, 2015, 06:17:58 PM
Just for show, my recently acquired pair of "Tye" shape hyacinth vases which I was able to read about from my wonderful copy of "The Curious History of the Bulb Vase" by Patricia Coccoris.
They are rather wonky shaped at the top and a lovely green colour, which I always think of as being teal green.

They breed you know; before you turn round you have a collection...

I'd better separate them then ;) ;D

maybe no need with these, I think you'd be o.k., they look identical so probably both batting for the same side. ;)

do these have anything legible on the base Anne, to indicate early or late examples?

No markings unfortunately, just a lot of age related wear, so probably knocking on a bit. They're approx. 14cm high and 374g, 387g respectively. One has a slightly indented base whilst the other is flatter.
The earlier Tye shapes shown in the book have a slightly different rim, so I'm just guessing that mine could later Edwardian models.  They are going to be used, even though I haven't got green fingers :)
